Noah Elliott Morrison is an artist based out of Detroit and another photographer that we had the pleasure of meeting while photographing Renée and Ian's backyard wedding. He was kind enough to share some of the images that he captured on film at Lake Michigan the day before the wedding and we've posted a few of them below.. Noah has a gift for capturing the personality and spirit of his subjects.

Mark on the right
Toronto based photographer Mark Sommerfeld is a talented artist and a friend of Formwork Photography. In case you missed it, we recently posted pictures from Renée and Ian's backyard wedding where we had the good fortune of crossing paths with Mark. If you ask us, Mark has a wonderful eye for color and a unique ability to capture the most spontaneous moments. He was kind enough to share his photos with us, check out some of the moments that he captured on film.

Baby Beckett made his first visit to the Pacific Ocean and we we're thrilled to be there for the action. Enjoy these photos from our beach stroll in that glowing Santa Monica sunshine.
When every single person that you invite to your wedding RSVP's yes, it means you're a special couple. Renée and Ian are that kind of couple. All the friends and family invited to this beautiful West Michigan backyard wedding not only attended, but in many cases chipped in to make this a truly heartfelt evening. Close girlfriends arranged the florals, Renée's Aunt officiated, many helped set-up the tables & chairs, dogs and kids helped forage for sticks to line the aisle, Detroit friends DJ'd the dancing + karaoke, and two talented photographer friends took a few candid film photos throughout the evening. Renée and Ian added plenty of their own touches as well including hand-drawn invitations, polaroid thank you cards and some incredible handmade plates and linens for the entire head table. Very excited to share some of our favorite photos from an evening celebrating Aaron & Stephen's marriage. This backyard gathering of close friends and family was intimate, laid back and super fun. Highlights included fabulous tacos from Homegirl Catering, some of the best impromptu speeches we've ever heard and the fog rolling in at the end of the night. And oh yeah - did we mention the view of the Santa Monica mountains!? Big props to Aaron's family for hosting this event, definitely one to remember.
Following a fun-filled night of celebrating Jenny & Tam's marriage, a small group of their closest friends and family met up the next morning at Cathedral Park. St. John's bridge was the perfect backdrop against the Willamette River for this intimate gathering. What could make this morning even better, you ask? How about the best donuts in Portland. The new Mr. and Mrs. Tran picked up a few dozen of Portland's best sweet treats to share. And oh that lemon poppyseed donut! This is how we should start every morning.
We traveled to Portland to shoot Jenny and Tam's wedding and got JUST enough rain to get a fun umbrella shot - that's it! The rest of that Saturday was perfectly-clear skies for a perfectly-lovely wedding. Can't even begin tell you just how much fun we had photographing these two together with all their friends and family. Jenny and Tam put so much work into every little detail and it shows!

How do you follow up a picture-perfect Santa Barbara Courthouse Wedding? You head for the mountains and watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean, that's how!
Days like these make us feel fortunate to call ourselves photographers. We are so honored to have photographed Aaron and Stephen's simple and stylish Courthouse wedding in Santa Barbara. Just as these two were being pronounced husband and wife, the sun broke through the overcast sky - it was a magical moment. The day felt truly intimate and oh-so-special because of how relaxed and loving these two are. These images are from the first part of our day spent exploring the Courthouse grounds. Excited to share photos from a weekend away! Very thankful for the opportunity to escape city life and flee to Big Basin Redwoods, California's oldest state park, over Memorial Day weekend. From park headquarters, we hiked deep into the wilderness along the Skyline to the Sea trail and spent the night hidden away at Lane Trail Camp. We got up super early to catch the morning sunlight on our way out and had the trail to ourselves.
Recently, we had the pleasure of spending an afternoon hanging out with two crazy-talented and amusing architects in the heart of Downtown LA. Aaron and Stephen marked their engagement by exploring with us Downtown's Historic Core. The buildings surrounding us were inspiring and so was the company. Check out the gallery for more images.
The early-morning rain in San Diego this weekend gave way to clear skies for miles, just in time for our engagement session with Rachael and Eric. We spent the day at two locations, the first near their home in Ocean Beach (with their excitable pup Mackenzie) where we soaked up some rays and played along the shore of the Pacific. As the sun was setting, we ventured about the Trails at Torrey Pines for our second part of the session. We could not have asked for a more beautiful setting or more gracious couple. It definitely feels like summer in Los Angeles. The weather this past weekend was hard to beat! And what better way to celebrate than with a fun couple and a Griffith Park photo shoot? Jenny and Tam didn't have to go far from their Los Feliz neighborhood to get some of the best views the city can offer. We had a gorgeous sunset to shoot against, and even though the Park was absolutely packed, we managed to find some amazing shots. We did a lot of hiking that day to get both the natural and city shots, so kudos to the couple for making the trek with us - it was totally worth it! See more from their photoshoot, here.
This weekend we traveled to San Diego and had a fun, relaxing time with Susan, Kevin and their beautiful daughter, Maia. Even though it rained on and off during most of our stay, we caught a small window of clear weather for this photo session at Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach. Maia was such a trooper - she smiled throughout the entire shoot despite the chilly wind and was a joy to photograph. You can see the rest of the photos here.
Winter is back!
We traveled to the Mid-West for the Thanksgiving Holiday and were fortunate to spend time with our friends Carolyn and Aaron. Check out the photoshoot we did to celebrate their pregnancy here. The city was freezing cold and covered in ice but they still made it look great.
Just finished editing Jamie and James's wedding highlight Video. Their wedding took place at the lovely 1909 in Topanga Canyon. J+J, you guys had one of the most authentic and hilarious wedding ceremonies we've ever seen. And your attention to detail was out of this world. From the hand dyed table clothes to the concrete cast candle holder wedding favors, you can tell that a LOT of work went into this celebration. So happy to have been there to capture it!

Made our way to Solvang this weekend in search of a pumpkin patch and maybe a little fall weather. Turned out to be pretty hot, but we did find a real pumpkin patch. We will take what we can get!
We had a great time photographing friends Jamie and James on the eve of their wedding. Their rehearsal dinner was a gathering of close friends and family making the trip from Pennsylvania. Tomorrow we will be filming their wedding, so stay tuned for updates. Wedding highlight video to follow.
